Former Queensland Origin star Adam Mogg has made a telling contribution in what could be his one and only appearance for the Souths Logan Magpies.
Match Report
Playing against his old club at Dolphin Oval, Mogg’s Magpies gatecrashed the Redcliffe club’s 50 year BRL anniversary celebrations.
The Magpies ran out comfortable 32-18 winners, although to be fair to the Dolphins the final scoreline did blow out after a length of the field intercept try from Reece Robinson in the last minute of play.
Souths Logan coach Mark Beaumont said Mogg made a fantastic contribution at five-eighth.
“He was very good for us, but I don’t think we’ll see him again,” said Beaumont, who expects Mogg to be play out the rest of the season with the Canberra Raiders in the NRL.
“Full credit to him, he came back with a really good attitude.”
Mogg was instrumental in Souths Logan’s match-winning surge after half-time.
The Magpies took a slender 10-6 advantage into half-time, but took the game away from the Dolphins with three quick tries.
With their army of Old Boys watching on, the Dolphins worked their way back into the contest with their famous fighting spirit.
But the Dolphins couldn’t land the knock-out punch as Brett Kelly and Michael Brophy finished with doubles to earn the Magpies another vital two competition points.
The Magpies are now gearing up for a showdown with Norths – the competition’s most consistent team with 10 wins from 11 outings.
“They’ve been the benchmark in this competition so far,” Beaumont said.
“In round one they beat us by two points, so we weren’t too far away. We’re really going to be tested on the weekend but we’re confident with the way we’ve been playing.”
Match Preview
Souths Logan have won their last three games against Redcliffe. Both sides hold down spots in the top four, but the Magpies are in superior form after a run of six straight Intrust Super Cup victories. The Dolphins have lost their last two.

Dolphins Celebrate Rich History
This weekend’s round 11 game between the Redcliffe Dolphins and the Souths Logan Magpies marks the 50th anniversary of the Dolphins’ inclusion in the Brisbane Rugby League competition.
Admitted into the BRL competition in 1960, the Dolphins have been a rugby league powerhouse for decades.
Although they have dropped their last two games in the Intrust Super Cup competition – under coach John Dixon the side are once again looming as a team to watch.
And they will want as many fans on-hand as possible to support them this weekend in their game against the in-form Magpies.
Redcliffe Dolphins Football Club manager Grant Cleal said the day was a look back at the club’s tradition.
“They entire team from that 1960’s side has been invited to attend the day,” Cleal said.
“We will hold a function for them upstairs (at the club) and they will meet the current players and speak with them. We will give them a tour of the facilities and show them how much things have changed.”
Another highlight of the day will be the commemorative jerseys the players will wear.
“For the game, the players will be wearing special jerseys that were designed to look like the ones from the 1960s,” Cleal said.
“Our president, Des Webb, was a player and we have a lot of archive photos – so we knew what they looked like. The jerseys were a lot simpler then, not too intricate – they had no logos and no emblems and the ‘V’-type design was quite popular. The jersey will be a maroon colour – so it is interesting to see how much it has changed over the years.”
Before the game, Redcliffe rugby league fans will get to know some more of their history, with players from the 1960s team to do a lap of honour around the field.
There will also be a presentation of commemorative medallions to the 1960 BRL team during the half-time break.
“Village Motors have lent us a few cars so we can take the original players around the ground for a lap of honour,” Cleal said.
It will be a full day of football at Dolphin Oval on Sunday, with the FOGS Colts game kicking off at 11.45am, the FOGS Cup game at 1.15pm and the Intrust Super Cup game getting underway at 3pm.
The original 1960 team list against Souths was:
1. Ken McCrohon 2. Kevin Benson 3. Peter Haggett 4. Buddy Hunter 5. Bernie Robinson 6. Keith Howard 7. Noel Gardiner 8. Col Weier 9. Tommy Green 10. Jim Graham 11. Neville Edwards 12. Bob Kimler 13. Dick Boxsell
